They
What They See
Every day they cry out in pain, "Devour, devour!"—and in silence, they chew on the flesh of others.
They are barren, so they befriend the rich they despise most—taking their money with one hand, cursing them with the other, all while shouting, "A man of integrity stays true even in poverty."
What They Think
Amid laughter and joy, they plunge a dagger into his heart.
With their eyes, they kill the high schooler who was made to stand as punishment for a minor mistake.
They long for sunflowers, yet all they ever see are a few chrysanthemums.
What They Wish
Flowers for you, not for them.
November 17, addendum: Tragedy
I once imagined the sunflowers they longed for would turn into a few chrysanthemums—and it came true. A girl in the bloom of youth leapt down without a backward glance, leaving behind what was perhaps the world she hated most, returning to the sky as a star. The rumors, unbearable to my ears, became a second wound upon her.
